The truest test of our faith is how we show love and compassion to those in need. Jesus always responded to people in their place of need. In fact, Jesus said it was his actions that demonstrated the coming of the Kingdom of God.
Mission Africa is involved in several compassionate ministries which seek to demonstrate the reality of the Good News of Jesus in practical ways. There are tens of millions of AIDS orphans in Africa. Who will care for them by providing food, shelter, an education, medical and spiritual care? The Bible says this is “our true religion” (James 1:27) and the Burkina Faso Poor Fund provides practical support to those who need it most. Babies whose mothers have died are provided with substitute baby milk, Children are sponsored to go to school and medical bills are paid for those who are sick.
Mission Africa also helps those who are disabled or suffering from a variety of handicaps. We provide GAP placements with a school for children with special needs. Another ministry manufactures wheelchairs which make such a positive life–changing difference to those who receive them.
Street Kids
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Ephesians 2:10
Every night in Africa, hundreds of thousands of children sleep on the streets. Disease, poverty, abuse and social disruption have left countless young people homeless and destitute. These children are the most vulnerable in society, living on its fringes, and frequently suffering from abuse, violence and exploitation.
Mission Africa works in partnership with City Ministries (a branch of SIM Nigeria) to make a difference in the lives of these children. City Ministries offers street kids a new start in life by meeting their basic needs of food and shelter, providing an education and also nurturing them spiritually. As a result, many come to a living relationship with Jesus. This ministry provides many opportunities for service. As well as permanent staff, Mission Africa also send out people on short term placements and Summer Teams to work with the children. It is a life–changing experience for those who go.
