Lying in the heart of the continent of Africa, Chad is the largest land-locked country in Africa. It stretches nearly 1000 miles from the sub-tropical in the South to the Sahara desert in the North. It is one of the most linguistically and culturally diverse countries in Africa, with over 130 language and ethnic groups, the two official languages being Arabic and French.
Despite joining the elite league of oil-producing countries, Chad still consistently ranks in the bottom 3 on the Human Development Index, with poverty and unemployment widespread and education frequently disrupted. Infant mortality is amongst the worst rates in the world (114/1000 births). Equally life expectancy is amongst the worst in the world (54 years). The nation is plagued by waterborne diseases, such as malaria and meningitis.
A predominately Muslim country, Islam continues to grow in influence and numbers, and there are more unreached people groups in Chad than anywhere else in Africa.
Mission Africa is currently working in partnership with TEAM under the Evangelical Church of Chad in a ministry to vulnerable and marginalised women.
Opportunities exist in evangelism and pioneer church planting ministries, medical work, school and Bible teaching, working with vulnerable women, agricultural and veterinary assistance, and well-digging and construction.
